A group of over 20 massage therapists and students were spellbound by the cultural contrasts, individual patient stories and technical exploration of Anna's work.

Educate Your Clients and Promote Your Practice!
Support Treatment Plans with Text, Photos and Charts!
Frozen shoulder hydro and stretch For over 4 years massage therapists have been using the Self Care Manual to help clients to extend and support the effects of massage treatments. Clients recieve a printed page with...
  • text describing why they need to do the self care
  • image(s) of how to perform the self care with good form
  • text describing HOW to perform the self care
  • a chart to track their performance and its effects
  • the return date and time of their next appointment
  • YOUR CLINIC name and contact info at the top of the page

The Self Care Manual is now available electronically. When your order is recieved (unfortunately still by mail), a pdf file is created with the entire 74 pages of the manual personalized with your contact information. You then recieve an e-mail to a website where you download your manual to your computer. At that point print as many copies as you need either from your computer, or burn the file to a CD and take it to a print shop for a larger print run!

Nicotine Inhibits Soft Tissue Healing
Girl smoking A recent artic le in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery describes how nicotine delayed healing in the supraspinatus tendons of rats who had nicotine pumped into their systems. Supraspinatus tendons were cut and then surgically repaired in the study. Comparisons were made between non-nicotine treated rats and nicotine-treated rats.

Multiple studies have shown that nico tine and/or smo king negatively impacts fracture healing.

In the nicotine group of rats, inflammation lasted longer, and collagen repair was altered. The maximum load that the nicotine group of tendons could sustain was actually greater than the non- nicotine fed group. However, their tendons were thought to have more cross-links and hence be more brittle and vulnerable to overuse.

Take home lesson!Clients who smoke may be delaying their recovery from soft tissue and bony injuries and be vulnerable to re-injury.
