Definition of Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is a condition in which the connective tissue supporting the arch of the foot becomes overloaded and inflamed. This is usually a result of excess load on the foot often from a combination of tight calf muscles, poor foot wear, prolonged standing, weight gain and/or pregnancy.
Once the plantar fascia becomes irritated in this way it often remains painful for months and even off and on for years! For most people this pain is not necessary. Once you understand the anatomy and function of the plantar fascia and foot muscles you can take actions to help yourself!
