Freezing, Frozen and Thawing
Frozen shoulder often goes through 3 stages. Each stage commonly lasts for 3 to 9 months. The first stage is the “freezing” stage in which the shoulder gradually becomes stiff and movement is lost. During the second stage, the “frozen” stage, the shoulder is very stiff and doesn’t move appreciably. During the last stage of “unfreezing”, the shoulder gradually regains its original movement.
Unfortunately, it is common for the shoulder to “thaw” only partially. Then, the shoulder remains stiff for many months or even years.
