Frozen Shoulder

Codmans pendulum exercise for frozen shoulder“Frozen shoulder” is a stiffening of the joint between the shoulder blade (scapula) and the arm bone (humerus) that prevents full, easy movement. This condition may come on very slowly without any pain or discomfort. Alternatively, it can arise from a shoulder injury in which there is guarding of normal movement in order to avoid pain. Sometimes it results from an injury such as a broken arm when the person wears a sling for a few weeks that causes the shoulder to stiffen.

In the image at right, the client swings her arm in a circle to release pain and swelling in the shoulder.
